Amber Hughes brings more than two decades of experience, leadership, and competitive excellence to the volleyball court. She began her coaching career in 2003 at Duncanville High School, working alongside her longtime mentor, Lyn Evans, where she developed a strong foundation in program building, athlete development, and competitive culture.
Amber has served in leadership roles at several North Texas high school programs, including Corsicana High School and Little Elm High School – both of which experienced long playoff droughts prior to her arrival. During her tenure, Amber led each program to 20+ win seasons and playoff appearances, revitalizing team culture and competitive expectations.
She later spent five highly successful seasons at Mansfield Lake Ridge High School, where her program reached remarkable heights. In 2024, her team was crowned Mansfield ISD Tournament Champions, finished undefeated at home, secured District and Bi‑District Championships, and advanced as Area Finalists – establishing Lake Ridge as a premier program in the region.
In 2025, Amber accepted the role of Assistant Athletic Coordinator and Head Volleyball Coach at Prosper Richland High School. In her first season, the Raiders advanced to the playoffs and captured both Bi‑District and Area Championships, ultimately reaching the 4A Regional Semifinals – a significant achievement and testament to her immediate impact.
At the club level, Amber has spent multiple seasons with TAV South in Mansfield, serving as Director of Compliance, Recruiting, and Social Media, while also coaching at the highest levels. Primarily working with 17s and 18s teams, she has coached athletes across every age group from 10s through 18s, developing a comprehensive understanding of long‑term athlete development. Her commitment to fundamentals, volleyball IQ, and high standards has produced results at the highest levels, including five former athletes currently competing in NCAA Division I volleyball and one former athlete who competed professionally.
Amber’s own playing career includes two years of collegiate volleyball at Grayson College before transferring to the University of Texas at Arlington, where she served as a team manager, traveling with the team and learning under respected collegiate coaches Janine Smith and Diane Seymour. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, along with a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas and a second Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas Tech University – combining elite athletic knowledge with exceptional academic and leadership preparation.
As a coach, Amber is deeply rooted in fundamentals, volleyball intelligence, and accountability, pushing athletes to excel both on and off the court. She is known for building disciplined, competitive programs while developing confident, resilient athletes prepared for the next level of play.
Outside of volleyball, Amber enjoys quiet time on her mother’s farm, reading, and spending time with her three dogs – Raider, Knox, and Winston.
